Our Background
As stated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Sub- Saharan Africa comprises approximately 28% of women engaged in STEM careers. A recent report indicates that Sub-Saharan Africa boasts the highest proportion of female graduates at 32%, with an even higher proportion of female ICT graduates at 38%.
The economic and social development of Sub-Saharan African nations is contingent upon the advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). None the less, women and girls remain underpresented in these fields.
That’s where ALA comes in. We are a pool of professionals in various aviation and STEM sectors who aim to support vulnerable females in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our goal is to change the statistics of Africa’s involvement in aviation and STEM-related innovations. Through our programs, we address the issues in our communities, such as lack of access to basic information about the aviation and STEM fields, as well as the lack of resources.
ALA’s mission and goal is to establish an organization that will serve and support the African aviation industry and careers in STEM by empowering women and raising honourable leaders. We want to promote Aviation & STEM by:
- Promoting and bringing awareness about the aviation industry in African communities.
- Encouraging African youth, especially young women, to explore different studies and careers in the aviation sector.
- Providing educational resources and information of the different careers in aviation.
- Sourcing, raising and channeling funds strategically to increase and support youth in pursuit of a profession in the Aviation industry
- Leading by example – influencing African youth.
- Increasing the statistics of Africans, particularly women pilots, in the industry
- Monitoring and conducting research on the local and global aviation environment
- Disseminating and sharing information on latest technological and legal developments through NPO magazine, conferences, air shows and roadshows, as part of contributing to community building processes.
- Recognizing and celebrating African women in the aviation industry.
